UPDATE: Report: EU may mull new anti-Russian steps over Siemens turbines

(Adds comment in last two paragraphs)

MOSCOW/BERLIN, Jul 24 (PRIME) – The E.U. may discuss scaling up of the sanctions against Russia on Germany’s proposal because of a scandal surrounding the shipment of Siemens-produced turbines to Crimea, Reuters reported on Monday, citing diplomatic sources.

Siemens said last week that all four turbines meant to be used on Russian power plant on the Taman Peninsula were illegally shipped to Crimea, forcing the company to cancel its licensing agreements to sell power equipment to Russian firms and suspend the current agreements with state-run companies.

Germany suggested adding three to four individuals and companies to the sanctions’ list.

Siemens spokesman Philipp Encz declined to comment on the Reuters report. “We do not comment on media speculations,” he said.
